Crosstown Concourse To Get Bitcoin ATM

Bitcoin will be adding a Byte Federal ATM inside the Crosstown Concourse location of Mama Gaia.

This will be the cryptocurrency’s eighth ATM location in Shelby County and the first in Crosstown.

Founded in 2008, Bitcoin is an electronic cash system that is completely decentralized and lacks a central authority. At the Byte Federal bitcoin ATM, users can check past transactions and balance, read the latest crypto news and convert dollars into Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dash and other cryptocurrencies. To login, users need to bring a cellphone, driver’s license and any cash they wish to exchange.

“Cryptocurrencies are definitely going to be a part of the way we all do business in the future,” Philipp von Holtzendorff-Fehling, CEO and co-owner of Mama Gaia, said in a release. “Those who make up the younger generations especially want to see more opportunities that allow them to purchase cryptos.”

The Mama Gaia inside Crosstown Concourse where the ATM will be located is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Redbirds’ Poncedeleon Named PCL Pitcher of the Week

Memphis Redbirds right-hander Daniel Poncedeleon has been named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 9-15, the league office announced.

Poncedeleon turned in the finest start of his career on Sunday at Omaha. The righty threw a one-hit, complete game shutout, his first nine-inning complete game of his career. He allowed two walks while striking out five batters. He allowed the lone hit, a double, in the second inning, and walked a man with two outs in the third inning. After the walk, he retired 18 consecutive batters until issuing a walk with two outs in the ninth.

It was the first complete game shutout by a Memphis pitcher since Jerome Williams accomplished the feat on June 11, 2016, against Colorado Springs. Additionally, it is the just the 17th complete game shutout by a Memphis starter in franchise history. It was the 11th time in franchise history that the opposing team had been limited to one hit against Memphis.

Earlier this month, Poncedeleon was named a PCL All-Star, and struck out the side in his one inning of work in the game. He is the second Memphis player to earn PCL Weekly Honors this season. Austin Gomber has taken home the honor twice this season, once in April and once in May.

In 17 starts this season, Poncedeleon is 9-3 with a 2.15 ERA, second-best in the PCL. The nine wins tie his career-high mark. His contract was purchased by St. Louis earlier this season, but he did not appear in a game.

HopeWorks Formally Opening New Facility Thursday

HopeWorks will hold a ribbon cutting Thursday, July 19, to celebrate its new facility, located in Binghampton at 3337 Summer Ave. in the former Southern Security Federal Credit Union. The grand-opening event will begin at 10 a.m., with tours of the facility. Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland will speak prior to cutting the ribbon.

“This facility will serve as the epicenter for Shelby County workforce development and adult education,” said Ron Wade, executive director of HopeWorks.

The decision to move was driven by HopeWorks’ growth over the past few years and the overall success of its programs. In the last year, HopeWorks has helped 547 students receive their HiSet certificate, trained 148 people in essential job skills through their Personal and Career Development courses and supported inmates preparing to leave prison as a partner with Hope 2 Hire.

Colliers Hired to Lease Lake District Office Space

Lake District developers Gilad Development Inc. has hired real estate brokerage firm Colliers International handle the leasing for the office portion of the 160-plus-acre mixed-use development.

In addition to the 65,000 square feet of Class A office space that Colliers will manage, the Lake District is projected to include 300,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, two hotels, 240 custom-built single-family homes, 390 apartments and 168 age-restricted apartments.

“The potential for this development is endless, and we’re excited to be a part of a project that we know will be transformative for the city and, quite frankly, the entire state,” Colliers senior vice president of asset services Ron Riley said.
