Bountiful Blessings Inc. is hosting the 8th annual G.E. Patterson 5K for Pre-K benefiting Porter-Leath on Saturday, Sept. 16.

Participants can choose a 5K run or Fun Walk. The 5K will start at Temple of Deliverance COGIC and continue through Downtown Memphis. The race will be followed by family friendly fun in which 4- to 5-person teams compete to win the following games:

•Block Stacking – tumbling tower game to stack blocks the tallest without letting them topple

•Baby Doll Dressing – doll dress-up race to change clothes the fastest

•Coloring Contest – timed coloring contest to be "graded" by preschool teachers

•Simon Says – memory game where players must carefully follow directions to win

•Telephone – team game where players try to pass a whispered message down the line without distorting it.

The annual event is held in honor of the late Bishop Gilbert Earl Patterson.

The 5K for Pre-K benefits Porter-Leath's Preschool program, which provides more than 6,000 at-risk infants and toddlers with high-quality early childhood education at no cost. Proceeds will help support children’s learning as well as health screenings, nutritious meals, disability services, and mental health services to build their school readiness.

Race sponsors include WBBP-AM 1480, CW 30 and FedEx Corp.

“We are thrilled to partner with Bountiful Blessings in the eighth annual 5K for Pre-K,” said Rob Hughes, development director at Porter-Leath. “Our partnership provides valuable awareness and support that empowers us to help more children achieve kindergarten readiness and engage their parents in their preschool education.”

Temple of Deliverance COGIC is located at 369 G.E. Patterson Ave. The registration fee is $30. On-site registration starts at 7 a.m., and the race will begin promptly at 8 a.m.
