Memphis Reads and its partners will host “Salvage the Bones” author Jesmyn Ward for events Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 28-29. On Wednesday, Ward will give the Memphis Reads public lecture and sign books at 7 p.m. in the Christian Brothers University theater, 650 East Parkway S. On Thursday, she will participate in an open Q&A  at 6 p.m. in Rhodes College’s McCallum Ballroom, 2000 North Parkway. Visit facebook.com/MemphisReads for details.

Market on the Square will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24-25, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Trimble Place at Overton Square. MEMFix: Film Row, sponsored by Livable Memphis, will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at South Second Street and Butler Avenue in Downtown Memphis. NAWBO Memphis will hold a meet and greet to kick off Women in (Small) Business Month on Monday, Sept. 26, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Signet Inc., 1801 N. Shelby Oaks Drive. Tennessee Small Business Development Center will host a workshop titled “Access to Capital” on Thursday, Sept. 29, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Business Center, 555 Beale St. Learn about preparing a winning loan package to present to a lender and hear from Hope Credit Union about a new microloan program for startups and small businesses. 2nd annual Bona Fide Blues Festival, hosted by the Memphis Blues Society, will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, in Overton Square. More than 45 Mid-South blues acts will perform on two all-day, family-friendly stages. Participants may also buy wristbands for admission to several participating venues for additional blues performances both nights.
