Ballet Memphis and The Booksellers at Laurelwood will host An Evening with Ballet Memphis: “Places” on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. at the bookstore, 387 Perkins Road Extended. National Civil Rights Museum will present a concert theatrical titled “Frederick Douglass: The Making of an American Prophet” on Friday, Feb. 5, at 6 p.m. at NCRM, 450 Mulberry St. The performance details’ Douglass’ early years as a slave and the relationship to his later vision. Buckman Performing & Fine Arts Center will host Street Beat on Friday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. at Buckman, 60 Perkins Road Extended. Special Olympics Greater Memphis will host its Polar Bear Plunge and Chili Cook-Off fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 6, at Mud Island River Park, 125 N. Whitehaven Vendors Marketplace will present its Valentine’s Gift Market on Saturday, Feb. 6, from noon to 5 p.m. in the First Memphis Plaza Building ballroom, 4466 Elvis Presley Blvd., third floor. More than 25 vendors will have unique Valentine’s items, including art, bath and body, candy and more. Admission is $1, free for ages 12 and younger.

Children’s Museum of Memphis will host its annual Cirque du CMOM fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 7 p.m. to midnight at the museum, 2525 Central Ave. This “Havana Nights”-themed 21-and-older party will feature food from 17 Memphis restaurants, 10 open bars, three dance floors and more.
