Trump Books Millington Rally Date
By Bill Dries
Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump is bringing his campaign to Shelby County over the weekend.
Trump has booked a Saturday, Feb. 27, campaign rally for the Millington Jetport.
The event, in the gap between the Tuesday, Feb. 23, end of the early voting period and the March 1 election day in the Tennessee presidential primaries, was confirmed on Trump’s campaign website Monday evening.
Trump comes to Memphis the day after Republican rival and Ohio Gov. John Kasich campaigns in the city with a townhall meeting at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn.
Meanwhile, Republican presidential contender Ben Carson will be at Highpoint Church Sunday, Feb. 28 for both worship services.
A Facebook invitation from the church says: "This is not a political endorsement or rally, but an opportunity to hear stories of God's work and wisdom in and through Dr. Carson's life."
The event was not listed on Carson's campaign website.
With the South Carolina GOP primary decided this past Saturday, the Republican field is expected to book more dates in the so-called “SEC” or “Super Tuesday” primary states.
Trump stops in Bentonville, Arkansas earlier in the day of his Millington stop and goes from Millington to Huntsville, Alabama on Sunday.
Before they get to the Super Tuesday states, Democratic presidential contenders Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders face each other in the Democratic South Carolina primary this coming weekend, a week after the Republican primary there.
