Snowy Nights in My Big Backyard will be held Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-10 (along with Dec. 16-23) from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Memphis Botanic Garden, 750 Cherry Road. Bring the family to play in the “snow,” sip hot cocoa or spiced tea, create a winter craft, and enjoy music, lights and more throughout My Big Backyard. Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland’s office, Shelby County Schools and the Memphis Sports Council will co-host Memphis Championship Celebration Day Saturday, Dec. 10, to honor the four city teams that won state high school football championships. The event will begin with a parade at 10 a.m. starting at the SCS offices, 160 S. Hollywood St. A program will follow at around 10:45 a.m. at Tiger Lane. East, Lausanne, Trezevant and Whitehaven high schools will be honored at the event.

Memphis Bar Association and Memphis Area Legal Services will host a free legal clinic on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 3030 Poplar Ave. Volunteer attorneys provide free legal assistance on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit memphisbar.org.

The Fourth Bluff Ice Rink will open Saturday, Dec. 10, at Mississippi River Park (Riverside Drive next to the Tennessee Welcome Center) and will remain open through January. Hours on Sundays are noon to 6 p.m.; Tuesdays-Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Fridays from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The rink is closed on Mondays.
