MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say state Rep. Curry Todd has been arrested on a theft charge after he failed to respond to requests to be interviewed by sheriff's officials about accusations that he stole a rival's campaign signs.

Shelby County Sheriff's Office spokesman Earle Farrell says Todd, a Republican from Collierville, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of theft under $500. Booking and lawyer information for Todd was not immediately available. A call to his legislative office in Nashville was not immediately returned.

Farrell says Todd was wanted for questioning after video surfaced showing Todd removing signs belonging to opponent Mark Lovell from alongside a road. Todd told media outlets that took the signs but he had permission from the property owner to remove them and place his own signs.
