Jimmy, Rosalynn Carter Coming to Memphis for Habitat for Humanity Build
By Andy Meek
Jimmy Carter is set to participate in a Habitat for Humanity build in Memphis Monday, an appearance at which the former president will be joined by his wife, Rosalynn, and Habitat for Humanity International CEO Jonathan Reckford.
The Carters’ one-day appearance also coincides with an announcement they’ll be making in the city, according to information sent out previewing the build, which will reportedly take place in Uptown.
The appearance comes after the Carters previously had planned to be in Nepal for the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project as part of a week spent each year building Habitat homes in different locations. The Nepal effort had to be scrapped, though, as a result of civil unrest and a fuel shortage, according to an announcement on the project website.
The former president, now 91, announced in August he’s being treated for cancer and that the disease has spread to his brain. Despite that, he’s decided to remain active, as his Memphis appearance shows.
