Batts Joins HealthChoice as Complex Care Manager

Kenneth Batts has joined HealthChoice’s new Population Health team as complex care manager. In his new role, Batts will reach out to patients identified with complex medical needs to schedule home visits, where he’ll provide customized intervention and condition education, including goal setting, care coordination, and long-term support with the goal to achieve improvements in their health.
Experience: BSN from The University of Memphis in 2005, transitioned from ED to case management at Methodist Germantown Hospital in 2007, certified in case management (CCM) in 2013. From 2007 to 2013, I honed my case management and utilization review skills in a high-volume, high-needs orthopedic floor. In January 2014, I moved to solely utilization review of multiple hospital floors, and in November I was hired as the complex care manager at HealthChoice.
Family: My wife, Anna, and I have been married for nine years, living in Memphis for all of them! We have three children: Daylon (7), Shiloh (5) and Lilyana (10 months).

Activities you enjoy outside of work: Playing guitar, playing with my children, working on broken things!
What talent do you wish you had? I wish I could sing, so I could accompany myself on guitar!
Who has had the greatest influence on you and why? Other than Jesus Christ, my father has had the greatest influence on my life. I have seen through his interactions with others what a man of integrity looks like.
What is the purpose of HealthChoice’s new Population Health department? The purpose of the Population Health department is to partner with providers and patients to improve quality, enhance the patient experience and reduce cost. Once an employer engages with HealthChoice, our Population Health department offers care management programs at no cost to patients, to help obtain an optimal level of health. We are currently offering three care management programs: diabetes management, complex care management and care transition.
What do you most enjoy about your work? I am privileged to be a part of a team that is constantly brainstorming new possibilities, creating new solutions and moving forward in new directions, with a driving commitment to improve the quality of health care for patients.
If you could give one piece of advice to young people, what would it be? Don’t put off the important things in life; you will never be ready!
Stephen Schaefgen has joined Vaco Memphis as president and managing partner of Vaco Risk Solutions. Schaefgen has more than 30 years of global leadership experience in risk management, information technology, internal audit and more. Piper Moore has joined Vaco as a health care and technology recruiter. She previously served as a corporate executive recruiter for TMX Finance. And Dustin Martin, who joined Vaco as an executive recruiter in August, is shifting his role as he becomes a member of the Vaco Operations team.
Misty Jones and Greer Goodwin have joined the sales team at Grant & Co. New Homes. Jones joins Grant & Co. following 16 years of work in the real estate sector. Goodwin is a recent graduate of the University of Memphis, where she received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in finance and a concentration in real estate.
Allan Hill has joined Sharpe Group as the director of technology. Hill has worked as a technical developer for International Paper, Pinnacle Airlines and FedEx Services, and most recently was a freelance web designer.
Matthew M. Lubozynski has joined the Memphis office of Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs LLP as a member of the Intellectual Property Protection & Litigation Service Team. Lubozynski previously practiced law at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP in Atlanta. He concentrates his practice in intellectual property, patent and general litigation matters.
The Memphis Bar Association has announced its 2015 leadership. Returning officers are Thomas L. Parker, president, and Shea Wellford, vice president. New officers are Dean DeCandia, secretary/treasurer, and Nicole Grida, Young Lawyers Division president. New board members are Jeremy Alpert, Lara Butler, Annie Christoff, Jennifer Hagerman, Jonathan Hancock and Kyle Wiggins. New elected section representatives are Stuart Canale and Earle Schwarz.
