Flexing Its Muscles, LA Fitness Eyes Third Store

LA Fitness is eyeing a property in the heart of East Memphis for its third Memphis-area location.
The California-based fitness center chain is considering opening its third store in the Memphis market at 1285 Ridgeway Road, according to sources.
The location under consideration is a vacant 24 Hour Fitness Inc. gym on the west side of Ridgeway between Primacy Parkway and Park Avenue. Nearby are Loeb Properties’ Primacy Place and Park Place Centre retail centers.
In its fourth quarter report on the retail market, CB Richard Ellis Memphis noted that LA Fitness would open a third Memphis-area location this year but did not specify a site.
At 170,310 square feet, the Ridgeway location would be the company’s largest center in Memphis.
Last year, LA Fitness, in conjunction with Phoenix-based real estate firm Barclay Group, opened two new centers in the market, one just off Tenn. 385 at Winchester Road and another at Interstate 40 and U.S. 64 in Lakeland.

CHA has inked a lease with Simon Property Group to occupy 3,488 square feet on the first floor of the Oak Court Office Building located at 530 Oak Court Drive in East Memphis.
The four-story, Class A building is packed with amenities, including on-site property management, on-site fitness facilities, covered parking, key card building access, security system, a lush, landscaped courtyard and proximity to all the good stuff happening in East Memphis
CHA, Tennessee’s only consumer operated and oriented health plan, has leased the space to house staff for assisting the company’s growing individual and group market presence in Memphis and West Tennessee. Staff operating out of the office will include sales and community relations, provider relations, customer services and support. CHA has almost 100 employees in locations across Tennessee, including corporate offices in Knoxville and regional offices in Chattanooga and Nashville.
“CHA has had employees and board members here in Memphis from the beginning, communicating our singular mission as a nonprofit health plan to the consumers in West Tennessee,” said Jerry Burgess, CHA president and CEO, in a statement. “We are very pleased to add a permanent brick-and-mortar presence in Memphis.”

• Tokyo Grill is opening its fourth Memphis area restaurant.
Yong Chen and Aaron Lu, owners of the fast-casual Japanese chain, have inked a lease for 1,440 square feet at 680 N. Germantown Parkway, Suite 46, inside the Trinity Commons retail center.
The new restaurant joins existing locations on Summer Avenue, Kirby Road and Park Avenue.
Loeb Properties also is reporting a new lease at Primacy Place in East Memphis.
Co-Med Health Care has inked a lease for 2,000 square feet at 6100 Primacy Parkway, Suite 105.
