I Choose Memphis: Tilea Terry
Special to The Daily News
“I Choose Memphis” spotlights Memphians who are passionate about calling this community home. New Memphis Institute provides the profiles.
Name: Tilea Terry
Job title and company: Senior vice president, director of marketing, MAA
Length of time living in Memphis: Born and raised in Memphis.
Life history: I’m a born-and-raised Memphian with an undergraduate degree from the University of Memphis. I married by high school sweetheart, Chad Terry, and we’re raising one daughter, Emma. We’re teaching Emma to appreciate this city we live in and the importance of giving back in your community. I’m pleased to have also taught her the critical attributes of being a Memphian: Cheer for the Grizz (even when they aren’t winning), chose your favorite barbeque restaurant (don’t waiver) and an appreciation for the blues is still a “work in progress.” It’s a blessing to be able to share so many wonderful Memphis traditions!
What can you find in Memphis that you can’t find anywhere else? Family. For me personally, Memphis is home to my entire immediate family. Having your family in the same city, I’ve come to realize, is not common these days and it’s something my husband and I are grateful for – especially since we are raising our daughter here.
What do you like most about your job? I’ve been with MAA for a little over a year now. In addition to being attracted to the culture of the company, I value the ties we have in the community. It’s important to me to work for a company and with other people that are so invested in bettering Memphis.
What is your favorite local restaurant? My favorite “special occasion” restaurant is Iris. My go-to lunch location would have to be Swanky’s and Lettuce Eat!
Favorite Memphis personality? Elvis, hands down … thank you, thank you very much!
Where is your favorite place to go to listen to music? There is nothing better than an outdoor concert at the Mud Island Amphitheater.
What is your favorite outdoor activity? This is an easy one for me – cycling! My husband owns a local bike shop so this is a favorite pastime for my whole family. It’s been great to see the progress Memphis has made to “share the road” with cyclists!
