The Association of Fundraising Professionals will meet Thursday, Dec. 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Thomas Center at Christian Brothers University, 650 East Parkway S. Jim Duncan, executive director of Memphis Botanic Garden, will present “The Memphis Botanic Garden Experience: From Red to Black.” Cost is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Overton Square will turn on its holiday lights and Christmas tree at Light Up the Square Thursday, Dec. 4, in Overton Square. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis will host the 13th annual Valero Memphis Refinery Tool Box Bash Friday, Dec. 5, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The Great Hall, 1900 S. Germantown Road. The event will feature live music, food and beverages, live and silent auctions, and a Wall of Wine mystery wine pull. Tickets are $50; proceeds benefit Memphis Habitat. Visit toolboxbash.com.

Visible Music College will present its annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Christmas Show Friday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts, 255 N. The St. Jude Memphis Marathon will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, at 8 a.m. starting at Fourth and Beale Street. The St. Jude Memphis 5K starts at FedExForum on Third Street at 7:15 a.m., and the family fun run starts at 1:30 p.m. For course description and more information, visit stjudemarathon.org.

Literacy Mid-South will hold its annual book sale Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Circuit Playhouse, 51 S. Cooper St. The sale will feature more than 5,000 new books, including hardbounds, softbounds and oversized books. Entry to the preview hour (9 a.m. to 10 a.m.) is $15. Visit literacymidsouth.org.
