The construction fencing separating the public from parts of Beale Street Landing started to come down Tuesday, Sept. 24, signaling some of the construction work is “largely complete,” according to Riverfront Development Corp. president Benny Lendermon.

The fencing around the grass ramp, the building under it, the breezeway and the patio came down Tuesday afternoon. Riverfront visitors who came upon the work crews taking down the fences were being welcomed into the area by RDC staff.

Gates are to be installed Wednesday at the loading zone for the landing.

Other parts of the landing remain under construction and behind the chain link fences. Beale Street Landing is slated to fully open in the spring of 2014. It is currently operating as an office where customers can buy tickets for daily excursion boats as well as souvenirs.
