Partly in celebration of being named by ESPN The Magazine as the best franchise in professional sports, the Memphis Grizzlies are putting on a civic celebration and court dedication event Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Southside Park, 612 South Parkway.
The event, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., is being hosted by Grizzlies head coach Dave Joerger, assistant coach Duane Ticknor, team COO Jason Wexler, Memphis Mayor A C Wharton Jr. and players Jerryd Bayless and Quincy Pondexter. The team mascot, Grizz, and the “Grizz Girls” also will be on hand.
Grizzlies representatives, the mayor, and representatives of The Works Inc. and TruGreen are hosting a ribbon cutting during the celebration for the revitalized basketball court at Southside Park.
The public is invited to attend. The first 500 fans in attendance get to enjoy free Jet’s Pizza and Pepsi products. The event also will include face painters, airbrush tattoo artists, a live DJ and more. The Green Machine Mobile Food Market also will be on hand.
