Rock’n Dough Pizza Opening in Jackson

The little Memphis pizzeria that could will soon be opening a new location in Jackson, Tenn.
The Rock’n Dough Pizza Co., owned by Jeremy and Amanda Denno, is slated to open a new restaurant and microbrewery at the Jackson Walk development in Jackson in October. The Dennos will team up with veteran local brewer Ben Pugh to create signature suds at the 4,100-square-foot restaurant.
“Pizza and beer, what else do you need in life, really?” said Jeremy Denno. “I’m leaving the beer up to him and he’s leaving the pizza up to me so it’s a perfect match.”
Jeremy Denno served as the kitchen manager at the Trolley Stop Market’s pizza stand and has been selling Rock’n Dough’s pies from a food truck at the Memphis Farmers Market Downtown for two years.
The company’s first brick-and-mortar store opened earlier this year at Loeb Properties Inc.’s Park Place Centre, at 1243 Ridgeway Road in East Memphis.
Rock’n Dough offers hand-tossed pizzas, which are cooked in a wood-fired oven and sold whole and by the slice, along with a variety of salads sandwiches.
Rock’n Dough’s new Jackson location is inside the Shops of Jackson Walk, which is part of the larger Jackson Walk development in Downtown Jackson.
Memphis developer Henry Turley teamed up with Jackson’s Hal Crocker to develop the ambitious mixed-use project.
The development is located in the heart of Downtown Jackson and features a state-of-the-art fitness and wellness center, apartments, homes and retail. The project is near the University of Memphis Lambuth Campus and adjacent to the city’s bustling farmers market. Additions to the farmers market include a dog park, amphitheater and walking trails.
The proximity to the farmers market will provide Rock’n Dough with the freshest, most local ingredients possible.
“I can literally throw a watermelon at it,” Jeremy Denno said.
Turley and Chris Alexander of Healthy Community LLC first met Jeremy Denno while he was working at the Trolley Stop Market. Jeremy Denno visited the development a few months ago and jumped at the idea of joining a community that will eventually be a part of Jackson’s DNA
“What drew me to the area is everything it’s about and I always wanted to be a part of something from the beginning and grow with it,” Jeremy Denno said. “I love everything it’s about.”
• In other leasing news, the law firm of Hagler Bruce & Turner recently signed a lease for 4,500 square feet at Thousand Oaks Business Center in East Memphis.
The newly merged law firm features veteran local attorneys Monice Moore Hagler, Kevin Bruce and Van Turner Jr. as the firm’s principals. Turner, who has served as associate general counsel for the board of Memphis City Schools, and Bruce were previously partners in the law firm of Bruce-Turner PLLC, while Hagler, Memphis’ first female and African-American city attorney, operated the Law Office of Monice Hagler. Bruce was a partner with Farris Bobango PLC while Turner was previously with Butler, Snow, O’Mara, Stevens and Cannada PLLC.
Darrell Cobbins of Universal Commercial Real Estate represented Hagler Bruce & Tate while Patrick Reilly of CB Richard Ellis Memphis represented the landlord.
• Trinity Commons is going to the dogs. Woof Gang Bakery, a national franchise offering gourmet dog treats, health-conscious pet foods, pet supplies, accessories and pet grooming, is opening its first Memphis location at Trinity Commons in Cordova. Florida-based Woof Gang Bakery recently signed a 2,400-square-foot lease at Trinity Commons, 714 N. Germantown Parkway, for its first Tennessee location.
Since the first Woof Gang Bakery opened in Jupiter, Fla., in 2007, the company has expanded across Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Texas, New Jersey, Nevada and now Tennessee with 37 locations, tapping into the lucrative, $52 billion-a-year market for pet food and accessories.
