Holder: Airlines Must Make Concessions to Merge

Attorney General Eric Holder says American Airlines and US Airways must make broad concessions at airports around the country if they want to settle a lawsuit blocking their proposed merger.

Holder says the Justice Department is ready to take the case to trial later this month if there's no settlement.

The government is suing to block the merger on grounds that it would restrict competition and drive up prices for consumers on hundreds of routes around the country.

Holder's comments show that the government's concerns extend beyond the control that American and US Airways would have at Washington's Reagan National Airport.
