Arkansas House Panel Passes Electronic Gun Permit Bill

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – An Arkansas House panel has advanced a proposal to allow gun owners to use their cell phones to display their concealed carry permit.

The House State Agencies Committee on Friday approved a bill that allows concealed carry permit-holders to store and display their gun licenses on a portable electronic device. Arkansas law requires residents carrying a concealed weapon to also carry their concealed carry permit.

The committee advanced a separate measure that would allow hunters to display their education certificates electronically as well.

Using an electronic version of either document wouldn't automatically give law enforcement permission to search the electronic device without probable cause.

The proposals, both sponsored by Representative Micah Neal of Springdale, now head to the House.
