Fourth-Quarter Bankruptcies Decline

The 3,144 bankruptcy filings in Shelby County during the last three months of 2012 equal about a fourth of the year’s total.
And like the year-end totals, according to The Daily News Online, most of those filings – 2,484 – were Chapter 13 filings with another 654 filed as Chapter 7 and 6 in the Chapter 11 category.
The overall number for the quarter mark a 2.6 percent decline from 3,227 bankruptcy filings in the fourth quarter of 2011 but just a 0.9 percent decline from 3,171 in the third quarter of 2012.
Among the local businesses filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy during the fourth quarter was EZ Fundraising 101in the Bartlett-Ellendale 38135 ZIP code.
Other Chapter 7 casualties included Norma’s Gallery at 7563 Proud Land Drive in Quince-Ridgeway’s 38119; and The Dixie Queen at 2375 Carrollwood in Cordova’s 38016.
Frayser’s 38127 ZIP code led the breakdown by ZIP codes for all bankruptcies in Shelby County with 254. But the 38109 ZIP code, covering the Westwood area, had 253 for the quarter.
The Frayser number was a drop for the area compared to the last quarter of 2011 and an increase for Westwood compared to the same quarter.
