Lovette Heads Career Services at Remington College

Demetrius “Dee” Lovette has been named director of career services at Remington College’s Memphis campus. In the role, Lovette provides job placement services to students and graduates, and works with local employers to assess their workforce needs and provide qualified applicants.
Education and/or work experience: I have more than 12 years of experience working in recruiting and human resources, and I am currently pursuing my Master of Business Administration.
Family: I have a 15-year-old daughter named Amber.

Activities you enjoy outside of work: My daughter is a cheerleader with Memphis Elite Cheer, and I enjoy traveling with the group. I also enjoy volunteering as a greeter with New Direction Christian Church.
What talent do you wish you had? I played two instruments in my high school band and I was also the drum major, but when it comes to music, I really wish I could sing.
Who has had the greatest influence on you? My grandmother Corine and my mom, Lucille, have always been the strongest influences in my life.
What attracted you to Remington College? I was drawn to Remington College by its mission of providing quality education and services to students while maintaining the highest standards when it comes to ethics and values.
What are your goals in your new position? Even though employment is never guaranteed, as the director of career services, my goal is to provide helpful tools and resources that our students need to write resumes, apply for jobs and learn techniques that will help them during job interviews.
What do you consider your greatest accomplishment? My greatest accomplishment has been the ability to serve other people.
What do you most enjoy about your work? I enjoy motivating and helping students in their quest to find a job that will allow them to utilize the skills they acquired at Remington College.
If you could give one piece of advice to young people, what would it be? I think it’s important for young people to understand that in life “progress is a process.”
Dave Shingles Jr. has been named chair of Remington College-Memphis’ criminal justice department. Shingles previously served as a patrolman, undercover agent and criminal investigator for the Olive Branch Police Department.
Dr. Richard W. Phillips, president of Southern College of Optometry, has been appointed to the board for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools – Commission on Colleges. The board is the accrediting body for higher education institutions in 11 Southern states.
Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women has named its 2013-2014 medical staff leadership: Dr. Judi Carney, president; Dr. Christine Mestemacher, vice president; Dr. Riad Homsi, chair, obstetrics department; Dr. Aric Giddens, vice chair, obstetrics department, and chair, pediatric-prescribed extended care; and Dr. Keith Owen, chair, pediatric department.
Dr. Robert W. Williams, professor at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, has been selected by the European Commission to participate in the Human Brain Project, one of its two future and emerging technologies projects. Williams is the UT-Oak Ridge National Laboratory professor in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology.
Laurinda Ingram has been promoted to director of estate and gift tax services at Reynolds, Bone & Griesbeck PLC Certified Public Accountants and Advisors; Amy Albert and Nathan Stevens have been promoted to audit managers; and Daniel Johnson has joined as intern.
Chris Martin, a third-year law student at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, has been awarded the Tennessee Bar Association’s 2013 Student Volunteer of the Year award.
Danette Hamby has been appointed human resources assistant at Central Defense Security. Hamby will work with the human resources manager and will provide new employees with paperwork and materials.
