Wright Joins Magna Bank as Senior Vice President

Andy Wright has joined Memphis-based Magna Bank as senior vice president and manager of commercial banking. Wright, who previously held senior vice president positions at Iberiabank and First Tennessee Bank, has experience working with a variety of industries, with in-depth expertise in the transportation and logistics industries.
Education and work experience: 23 years in banking in Memphis. Bachelor of Business Administration from Ole Miss; attended high school at Memphis University School.
Family: Courtney, wife; two pet dogs, Ruby and Jinx.

What’s playing on your stereo right now? Stereo? Do they still make those? But you never know. I listen to a variety of music and a lot of different radio stations.
Activities you enjoy outside of work: Golf, travel, flying (I am a pilot).
What talent do you wish you had? Getting my pilot’s license was really cool, so I’d like the skills to fly a jet.
What attracted you to Magna Bank? The opportunity to work with a great group of bankers and help grow the commercial and industrial loan portfolio at Magna.
What are your goals in your new position? To increase commercial and industrial loan activity and build the premier commercial lending group in Memphis.
What do you consider your greatest accomplishment? I’m not sure if I know what it is yet. I’m still working toward my greatest accomplishment.
What do you most enjoy about your work? Working with a diverse group of clients and seeing what it takes to be successful in business.

Arif Shakeel, a director of Western Digital Corp. and its former CEO, has been named the 2013 outstanding alumnus of the University of Memphis’ Herff College of Engineering. Also being recognized for service to the college and the field of engineering are Tommy Carls, senior vice president for research and development, Medtronic; E. Hunter Harrison, CEO, Canadian Pacific Railroad; John Ray Jr., vice president for global research and development, CareFusion; and International Paper.
Ashley B. Coffield has been named president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region. Coffield most recently served as project director of the Washington-based Partnership for Prevention’s cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Julie McLaughlin has joined Kiesewetter Law Firm PLLC as a senior associate. McLaughlin was previously an associate at Lawrence & Russell PLC. Marianne Clendenen has joined Kiesewetter as an associate. Clendenen was previously an associate at The Bateman Gibson Law Firm.
The University of Memphis College of Education, Health and Human Sciences Alumni Chapter, has named its 2013 hall of fame inductees: John N. Avis, Dr. William E. General surgeon Dr. Roger McGee has joined Germantown Surgical Associates. McGee earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine and has practiced as Methodist Fayette Hospital since 2008.
E. Franklin Childress Jr., a shareholder in the Memphis office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC, has been inducted as a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy.
Landon K. Williams has joined Cushman & Wakefield/Commercial Advisors as senior associate. Williams previously built and branded the Athletic Resource Management baseball division, negotiating a $127.5 million deal for pitcher Matt Cain in 2012.
Mike Burns has joined Del-Nat Tire Corp. as marketing manager. Burns previously worked for Bridgestone Retail Operations in store management for eight years. Nicole Lau has joined Del-Nat as staff accountant. Lau recently graduated from The University of Memphis with bachelor’s degrees in finance and accounting.
Jay D. Wilson Jr., vice president of Mercer Capital, has earned the accredited senior appraiser designation in the business valuation discipline from the American Society of Appraisers. Wilson is a senior member of Mercer’s Financial Institutions Group.
Brian Tchang, a junior at Rhodes College, has been selected for a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship to study in South Korea. Tchang is a commerce and business major with a Chinese studies minor.
