Jimmie Tapley of Crye-Leike Realtors has been named the country’s 13th most successful residential Realtor by REAL Trends Inc. and The Wall Street Journal. The ranking is based on the number of real estate agents’ closed transactions in 2011. Tapley’s sales volume for the year totaled 437 transaction sides.

TAPLEY

Hometown: Marshall, Texas. Parents immigrated to Texas in 1953 fleeing Communist Chinese.

Work Experience: Previously employed for 12 years with The Commercial Appeal advertising department; ranked No. 1 in sales. Worked several years selling radio advertising; received No. 1 rank in sales with WRVR 104 FM and WGKX KIX 106 FM. Received real estate license from Tennessee Real Estate Commission in March 1981. Ranked No. 1 in closed transactions at Crye-Leike for several years.

Family: Married to Bob, college sweetheart since September 1979. Two sons: Tyler, age 28, and Ross, age 25. Both are licensed in real estate and both graduates of the University of Tennessee.

Favorite quote: “Just do it!”

Favorite movie: “Stalag 17” and “The Shawshank Redemption”

The sports teams you root for: Memphis Tigers and Dallas Cowboys! Anyone that beats Ole Miss.

What’s playing on your stereo right now? Bruce Hornsby

Activities you enjoy outside of work: Reading and working out.

What talent do you wish you had? Playing the piano and singing.

Who has had the greatest influence on you? My husband, Bob.

How long have you worked with Crye-Leike Realtors and what attracted you to the company? I started in February 1992 – 20 years. Attraction was the fact that they were (and still are) No. 1 in sales, and we wanted to give our loyal clients the best we could offer. Crye-Leike offered better exposure for our clients and enabled us to sell our properties faster due to their marketing.

What are your goals in the coming year? To try to stop and smell the roses. We just welcomed our first grandchild – a granddaughter – on Aug. 24. We’re excited to see what all the fuss is about being grandparents.

What do you consider your greatest accomplishments? Having two wonderful, successful sons, and that I’ve been able to stay married to the same man I met in college. … I know I’m not an easy person to live with.

What do you most enjoy about your work? 1. The different people we get to meet each day. 2. That you feel good about helping someone achieve the American dream of owning a home. 3. That every day brings new and different challenges. 4. That I’m able to help not only buyers and sellers but fellow salespeople too.

If you could give one piece of advice to young people, what would it be? It’s the same advice my husband, Bob, and I give to our sons: Find something that makes you happy and hopefully the money will come. Do what you enjoy.
