FedEx Marks Dec. 10 As Busiest Day
By Bill Dries
Memphis-based FedEx Corp. has Dec. 10 marked on its calendar as the busiest shipping day in its history.
The company estimates it will move 19 million shipments through all of its networks on that day, 10 percent more than its previous busiest day – Dec. 12, 2011.
On the busiest day in 2011, FedEx shipped approximately 17 million packages which was ten percent more than the busiest shipping day in 2010.
This year’s expected high point comes on Green Monday, the second Monday in December when holiday e-commerce or buying on line reaches its peak.
Last year, American consumers spent an estimated $1.1 billion just on Green Monday.
All segments of FedEx Corp. will see increased traffic on the busiest day. FedEx has plans to use 20,000 seasonal employees to handle the surge in its FedEx Ground, Home Delivery and SmartPost divisions.
