The Daily News’ offices will be closed Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Offices reopen at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 5, and will remain open during normal business hours.

The Riverfront Development Corp. Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular will be held Wednesday, July 4, at Mud Island River Park, 125 N. Front St. The park opens at 10 a.m., and the fireworks display will begin around 9 p.m. Visit memphisriverfront.com.

Madison Hotel will host its annual Independence Day Rooftop Dinner Wednesday, July 4, at 7 p.m. at the hotel, 79 Madison Ave. Cost is $35 for adults and $20 for children 13 and younger. Visit eighty3memphis.com or call 333-1224 for reservations.

Cooper Young Night Out will be held Thursday, July 5, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at businesses in the Cooper-Young neighborhood. Visit cooperyoung.biz for a list of activities.

Memphis Botanic Garden will hold Twilight Thursday on Thursday, July 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at MBG, 750 Cherry Road. Regular admission rates apply. Visit memphisbotanicgarden.com.

Madison Hotel will continue its 2012 Sunset Atop the Madison series Thursday, July 5, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the hotel, 79 Madison Ave. Cost is $7. Call 333-1200.

Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art will screen “Confucius” as part of its Asian- and Judaic-themed film series Saturday, July 7, at 12:15 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. at the museum, 119 S. Main St. The screening is free with museum admission. Visit belzmuseum.org.

TnAchieves will hold a reception for prospective mentors for the 2012-2013 school year Monday, July 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Leadership Memphis, 365 S. Main St. Current mentors and tnAchieves staff will talk about volunteer opportunities to mentor high school seniors planning to attend community college.
