Vols to Allow Arnett to Transfer to Select Schools
AP
KNOXVILLE (AP) – Tennessee will allow freshman wide receiver DeAnthony Arnett to transfer to a program to be closer to his ailing father, as long as that school is not one Tennessee plays or competes against for recruits.
Volunteers spokesman Jimmy Stanton told The Associated Press on Thursday that the decision fits with a "long-standing policy" and will allow Arnett a chance to play for a Division I program near his father in Saginaw, Mich.
Arnett wrote in an email to the media that his father suffers from lung disease and that he was told by coach Derek Dooley he could join a Mid-American Conference school.
His transfer request will not be reviewed until next week.
Arnett caught 24 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns while playing in all 12 games in 2011.
