Memphis’ Media Source Wins Bronze Telly
By Sarah Baker
Media Source has received one of the television industry’s most prestigious honors, a Bronze Telly Award, for its production of “Mahaffey Covers Country Music’s Biggest Night.”
The award-winning video documented, in time-lapse fashion, the demanding process of constructing the venue for the red carpet event at the Country Music Association Awards in Nashville by Lipscomb & Pitts Breakfast Club member Mahaffey Tent & Party Rentals.
It was a challenging piece to produce, given the time and effort it takes to capture an event of this magnitude one frame of video at a time, said Media Source president Joe Incardona.
“Staff videographer/editor Jonathan Thomason literally worked night and day to film the Mahaffey construction team as they worked outside the Bridgestone Arena in Downtown Nashville,” Incardona said. “It was an extremely time-sensitive project, both for us and the team at Mahaffey. This very large outdoor structure had to be assembled in a matter of a few days.”
The piece was among the more than 11,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous foreign countries in the 32nd annual Telly Awards competition.
The Telly Awards honors outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs, as well as video and film productions, and Web commercials, videos and films. The Telly Awards annually showcase the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators and corporate video departments in the world.
Video marketing has become a top priority for most marketers today, said Beth Wilson, marketing manager for Mahaffey Tent & Party Rentals. The company wanted to do something different, with this being its 10th year covering the CMA Awards.
“A time-lapse video spanning the five-day install of several tents and clearspan structures – showcasing our dedicated, highly-skilled crew with the backdrop of Music City – was definitely the way to go,” Wilson said. “The end result was a 4-minute, exciting display of experience, teamwork and a wonderful preview of country music’s biggest night.”
Memphis-based Media Source has been providing corporate and broadcast video production services since 1994. In addition to Mahaffey Tent & Party Rentals, the company’s clients have included Baptist Memorial Health Care, Embassy Suites Hotels, Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division, CBS 60 Minutes, ABC News, MTV, CB Richard Ellis, and High Noon Entertainment/The Cooking Channel.
