The Memphis Fisk Alumni Club will host the General Alumni Association’s southern regional conference Friday, Sept. 16, through Sunday, Sept. 18, at The Peabody hotel, 149 Union Ave. The conference will begin Friday from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with the premiere of the documentary “Last Championship Teams.” Workshops will be held throughout Saturday. Also on Saturday, a philanthropy luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m. and a black-tie dinner benefit at 7 p.m. The luncheon and dinner are open to the public. Call 230-5568 or email alumni@fisk.edu.

The Cooper Young Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Cooper Young neighborhood. The festival will include art booths, live music, food, drinks and more. For more information, visit www.cooperyoungfestival.com.

Literacy Mid-South will host a book sale Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Literacy Mid-South, 902 S. Cooper St. The book sale is free and open to the public. A preview hour will be held from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Admission to the preview is $10 and attendees will have the pick of the best books available. Coffee and donuts will be served. The Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee will hold its Fifth Annual 5K Run-Walk Saturday, Sept. 17, at AutoZone Park, 200 Union Ave. Registration begins at 8 a.m., the 5K walk begins at 9 a.m. and the one-mile fun run begins at 9:10 a.m. The post-run celebration begins at 10:30 a.m. Shirts will be given to anyone who donates $20 or more. The Ovarian Cancer Awareness Foundation will hold the Fourth Annual Walk Teal for a Cure Saturday, Sept. 17, at 9 a.m. at Shelby Farms Park Visitor Center, 500 N. Pine Lake Drive. Registration and a silent auction will open at 7:30 a.m. Visit walktealforacure.racesonline.com.

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center will host a 5K Race and One-Mile Fun Walk Sunday, Sept. 18, at 8 a.m. at Forrest Park, 799 Madison Ave. Pre-registration is required. Indie Memphis and the Memphis & Shelby County Film and Television Commission will hold a seminar by film and television producer Howard Rosenman titled “The Hollywood Sell” Sunday, Sept. 18, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Memphis College of Art’s Callicott Auditorium, Rust Hall, in Overton Park.
