Charges Likely Tuesday in Doubletree Shooting
By Andy Meek
Charges are expected to be filed sometime Tuesday morning as a result of the shootout Sunday night at the Doubletree Hotel, 185 Union, which resulted in two deaths, one of them Memphis police officer Timothy Warren.
In a brief press conference Monday afternoon, Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said the incident apparently was a domestic dispute involving a love triangle. Memphis police have not yet released details on the suspect, who they said encountered Warren in a stairwell between floors 8 and 10 inside the Doubletree.
Details are still unclear about the encounter between Warren and the suspect, but Armstrong said the suspect fired multiple shots at Warren, who was pronounced dead at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis.
The shooting took place around 7 p.m. Sunday night. The suspect shot and killed his wife’s ex-husband, who died on the scene.
Officers apprehended the suspect at the Doubletree.
“Our hearts go out to (Officer Warren’s) family,” Armstrong said. “We ask for your continued prayers for his family, this department and city.”
