FedEx Adding Capacity in Georgia
AP
NORCROSS, Ga. (AP) — FedEx Ground says it needs more shipping capacity in the Atlanta market and will start construction on a new distribution center in Norcross.
FedEx Ground already has distribution centers in Norcross, Marietta and Atlanta. Company spokesman David Westrick says that once the 215,000-square-foot facility is built, Norcross operations will be split between the two facilities there.
Westrick says FedEx spent about $14 million for a 15-year lease on the property and that the center should open by September of 2012.
FedEx is second to Sandy Springs-based UPS among shipping companies, with about one-fourth of the market.
