Homeless Count Across West Tenn.
JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) – A one-night census of homeless people in West Tennessee will help determine funding to aid them.
The count Monday night will be taken by a number of volunteers who will fan out to places where homeless people gather, reports The Jackson Sun.
Vicki Lake, chairwoman of the Madison County area unit of Tennessee Homeless Solutions, says determining the number of homeless people in rural areas is a challenge because homelessness isn't as apparent there.
Volunteers will count the number of people and where they are living. The results will figure into how funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and other agencies is distributed.
