Zoo to Open Ice Skating Rink in November
By Andy Meek
Memphians soon will have a reason to get their ice skates out of the closet or to even go buy new ones.
The Memphis Zoo is planning a seasonal, tented ice skating rink with 5,400 square feet of ice in the picnic area between its Northwest Passage and Teton Trek exhibits.
The rink will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily Nov. 19 through Jan. 31. On Zoo Lights nights, the rink will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Skate fees will be $6 including skate rental, and $5 if visitors bring their own skates. Zoo admission fees still apply.
"With the addition of the first outdoor ice skating rink in Memphis in years, the Memphis Zoo is proud to raise the bar in attraction entertainment and help enhance the profile of the city as an excellent winter destination," said Chuck Brady, CEO of the Memphis Zoo. "We look forward to seeing everyone on the ice having fun this winter."
