Former State Sen. Don McLeary Seeking Rematch

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - Former state Sen. Don McLeary of Humboldt is seeking a rematch against the Democrat who beat him in 2006.

McLeary was elected to the Senate District 27 seat as a Democrat in 2002, but switched parties and ran as a Republican in 2006. He lost to current Sen. Lowe Finney of Jackson by 477 votes. He later acknowledged that changing his party affiliation likely cost him the election.

McLeary will face retired Air Force Col. Jim Harding of Huntingdon in the GOP primary. The Jackson Sun reports that another Republican, Jackson businessman Adrian Eddleman, dropped out of the race on Wednesday.

Finney serves as Senate Democratic Caucus chairman.
