U of M Names Murrell Assistant Dean of Distance Education

Dr. Vicki Murrell has been named assistant dean of distance education for the University of Memphis.
Murrell will be responsible for the creation, development, expansion, implementation and support of distance learning courses offered by the university and through the Tennessee Board of Regents Online Degree Program.
Murrell received a master’s degree in education in curriculum and instruction and a doctorate in educational psychology and research from the University of Memphis. She received a bachelor of arts in history from Millsaps College in Mississippi.

Dr. Hershel P. Wall and Dr. Charles R. Handorf have been recognized by the Methodist Healthcare Foundation for their faith-based initiatives that have made an impact on health care. Wall, chancellor of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, has been recognized for his work with the Church Health Center and his influence on its pediatric section. Handorf, chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UTHSC, has been recognized for building the partnership between UTHSC and Methodist University Hospital.
Seventeen attorneys from Burch, Porter & Johnson PLLC have been named to the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. They are Nathan A. Bicks, C. Thomas Cates, W.J. Michael Cody, LeeAnne Marshall Cox, Joe M. Duncan, Jef Feibelman, Doug Halijan, David J. Harris, Les Jones, J. Brook Lathram, Allen T. Malone, Charles F. Newman, Joel Porter, R. Michael Potter, W. Rowlett Scott, DeWitt M. Shy and Laurel C. Williams.

William T. Spitz and Carol B. Womack have joined Diversified Trust Co. Spitz is a co-founder of the company and serves on the board. He returns after retiring as treasurer and vice chancellor for investments at Vanderbilt University. Spitz also serves on the board of directors of Mass Mutual Financial Group, Acadia Realty Trust and Cambium Global Timber Fund. Womack arrives at Diversified Trust after 23 years at Vanderbilt University, where she most recently served as managing director of private markets and worked with Spitz in managing the $3.6 billion endowment fund.
Johnny B. Moore, president and chief executive officer of SunTrust Memphis, has been awarded the 2009 AIM Charity/BRIDGES Kickoff Classic MVP Corporate Award. Humphrey “Tripp” Folk III has been awarded the Classic’s MVP Individual Award. Both are members of BRIDGES’ Board of Trustees.
Donna Waggener has joined The Daily News as marketing manager. In her position, Waggener will identify new business opportunities and assist in readership expansion through sales and marketing campaigns. Before joining The Daily News, Waggener served as a regional manager for Lamination Service Inc. Prior to that, she worked in sales and marketing for Contemporary Media Inc.
Kathryn Davies has joined Keller Williams Realty. Davies obtained her real estate license earlier this year.
Thompson & Co. has made four additions to its staff. Emily Fletcher has joined as an account executive. Kathryn Ruleman has joined as an assistant media strategist. Gray Fiser has joined as vice president of BottleRocket, the company’s sports and entertainment marketing group. Anna Michael has been promoted from intern to account coordinator.
