NASHVILLE (AP) – The State Election Commission has two new members, including the first woman to sit on the panel.

Lawmakers held a joint convention on Wednesday to elect Kent Younce of Lafollette and Judy Blackburn of Morristown.

Younce is a member of the Campbell County Election Commission and Blackburn serves on the Hamblen County Election Commission.

The commission oversees state elections and appoints the members of all 95 county election commissions.

Last month, House Republicans passed a proposal to expand the commission to give the GOP a majority on the panel. The Senate would have to approve a minor change made by the House before the bill could head to the governor’s desk.

Republicans hold a majority in both chambers.
