Barbara Kritchevsky has been appointed to the newly created position of director of advocacy at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphrey’s School of Law.

Kritchevsky has been a law professor at the university since 1983, and for the past 20 years has served as a faculty adviser to the school’s Moot Court Board and also served as the school’s associate dean for academic affairs.

In her new role, Kritchevsky will devote her time to strengthening the advocacy skills of law students. She also plans to create a Certificate in Advocacy specialty over the next year.

David S. Romantz has been named associate dean of academic affairs of the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphrey’s School of Law. Romantz has served on the board of directors of the Community Legal Center in Memphis and on the board of the Association of Legal Writing Directors. He was the director of legal methods at the U of M law school and served as faculty adviser to the Moot Court Board, the Jewish Law Students Association and the Student Bar Association.

Dr. Charles Hatcher has been promoted to the position of state veterinarian. The state veterinarian is responsible for protecting and monitoring animal health in Tennessee. Hatcher has worked for the Tennessee Department of Agriculture for more than five years as a staff veterinarian. He is a 1984 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine.

Brian K. Smith has been hired by Memphis University School as the new director of college counseling. Smith comes to MUS from The Baylor School in Chattanooga, where he had served as its senior associate director of college counseling since 2004. Before his time at Baylor, Smith spent a decade working in the Admissions Office at Lake Forest College in Illinois, ultimately serving as senior associate director of admissions and director of recruitment and application review.

Financial Executives International has named new members of its board of directors for 2009-2010. Thomas “Tad” Feeney, chief financial officer at The Bryce Co., has been named president. Ken Patton, president of Mercer Capital, has been named vice president of programs. David McDivitt, operations controller at Regions Insurance Group, has been named vice president of membership. Rance Sapen of Butler, Snow, O’Mara, Stevens & Cannada PLLC has been named treasurer. Andy Long of Cornerstone Systems has been named secretary and Beverly Robertson of NSA LLC has been named past president. Tony Catalano, Jim Clark, Tom Branyan, Karen Cassella, Brent Long and Larry Geiger have been named directors.

Scott Brown has joined RocketFuel as chief technology officer. Brown most recently worked as head of technology for MicroPlace Inc. in San Jose, Calif. Brown also has worked in several startup projects in Memphis, including alongside Dr. Stan Franklin of the University of Memphis to develop software that incorporates research from cognitive psychology, artificial intelligence, consciousness studies and neuroscience

Ron Guy of Crye-Leike Realtors has received his Graduate Realtor Institute designation. Guy is a licensed sales associate in the company’s Germantown branch. Prior to his time in real estate sales, Guy served in the financial community in a senior management role.

Jim Masilak has been hired as public relations account executive at archer>malmo.

Ceil Walker-Norris, president and chief executive officer of Walker + Associates, has been honored with the University of South Florida’s School of Mass Communications Outstanding Alumnus Award. The award recognizes graduates who have excelled and made significant contributions in their field.
