Woman Charged in Prosecutor's Wife's Death

RIPLEY, Tenn. (AP) - A woman has been brought up on charges related to a car accident that killed the wife of a West Tennessee prosecutor.
Lauderdale County sheriff's deputies say Melody Caldwell was arraigned Wednesday on charges of vehicular homicide intoxicated, vehicular homicide reckless conduct and DUI.
Jackie Dunavant was a passenger in District Attorney Mike Dunavant's Lexus convertible, which was being driven by Caldwell when the car crashed in October 2008.
Mike Dunavant is district attorney general for the 25th Judicial District, encompassing Fayette, Hardeman, Lauderdale, McNairy and Tipton counties.
Caldwell and Jackie Dunavant were friends and neighbors and had been out together the night the crash happened near Ripley. Jackie Dunavant died at the scene.
