U of M’s Raines Appointed To Southern Regional Education Board

Dr. Shirley C. Raines has been appointed to the Southern Regional Education Board by Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen. Raines, president of the University of Memphis, will serve a four-year term.

The SREB is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works with Tennessee and 15 other member states to improve education from the pre-kindergarten to the university level.

Raines is one of 12 college presidents on the NCAA board of directors and she chairs the NCAA Presidential Task Force Oversight and Monitoring group while also serving on the board of directors of Conference USA.

Tom Alexander and Paul Phillips have joined HopeWorks Inc.’s board of directors. Alexander has a background in sales and serves as an elder at Sycamore View Church of Christ. Phillips is the vice president of operations for Accelerated Community Oncology Research Network Inc.

Christin Yates has been promoted to account manager at archer>malmo. Adrienne Timberlake has been promoted to smash producer and Candace Ashir has been promoted to senior account executive.

Miska L. Shaw has joined Glankler Brown PLLC as an associate. Shaw concentrates her practice in the area of civil litigation, including family law, personal injury law, employment law and business law.

Southwest Tennessee Community College’s Communications and Marketing Department has won eight MarCom Awards, which recognize outstanding achievement by marketing and communication professionals. Southwest won three platinum awards, three gold awards and three honorable mentions.

David Cummings has been named corporate administrator of Patient Care Operations for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. Prior to joining Methodist Le Bonheur, Cummings served as the director of the Emergency Center at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Md. Also, Sandra Bailey has been named vice president for senior care for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. Bailey is the administrator of Methodist Extended Care Hospital and the Skilled Nursing Facility at Methodist University Hospital.

Memphis Plywood Corp. has launched its new Web site, www.memphisplywood.com. The new site will feature information about the company, an overview of casework services, certifications and memberships and contact information.

Chad Johnson and Raina Gir have joined Elzemeyer Talent Agency. Johnson previously worked for talent agencies Elite, Ford, Wilhelmenia NY and Boss. Gir has worked in the advertising industry for two years, assisting in developing national and international marketing campaigns.

Drs. Nabeel Farooqui and Lekha George have joined the Department of Medicine at UT Medical Group Inc. Farooqui specializes in internal medicine and has an interest in medical information technology. George is a nephrologist who specializes in hypertension, chronic kidney disease and dialysis.

Dr. LaDon L. Jones has been selected to participate in the Maxine Smith Fellows Program of the Tennessee Board of Regents. Jones is an associate professor of health education and the director of the master of health administration program at the University of Memphis’ School of Public Health.

Jay Caughman has become the first surveyor in Tennessee to receive a new federal certification from the United States Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management, the Certified Federal Surveyor Certification. Caughman is the vice president and surveying department manager at Allen & Hoshall.

Dr. Arthur Nienhuis of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has received the 2009 Mentor Award from the American Society of Hematology. Nienhuis specializes in bone marrow transplantation, gene therapy and genetic testing.
