MERI Names Roberts Human Resources Coordinator

Nancy Roberts has joined the Medical Education & Research Institute (MERI) as human resources coordinator.

Roberts joins MERI after working as vice president of organization development for a large apartment real estate investment trust. In addition, Roberts has more than 15 years of HR experience, including serving in the human resources capacity for a large retail operation and a large marketing firm.

In her position at MERI, Roberts will direct all human resources initiatives for the nonprofit medical teaching and training school.

Roberts is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse and earned her Senior Professional in Human Resources Management designation from the Society for Human Resource Management.

Drs. Michael G. Martin and David C. Portnoy have joined The West Clinic as medical oncologists. Martin received his medical degree with highest honors from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center and his Medical Oncology Fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Portnoy earned his medical degree cum laude from the State University of New York. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and performed his Hematology-Oncology Fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Jennie Hill has joined John Pruett Architects. Hill is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accredited architect.

Miriam Augustin of TRO Jung|Brannen has completed the certification requirements given by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification and is now a licensed interior designer. Also, Steve Berger, Susan Golden, Gayle Anthony and Heather Averwater have completed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification requirements.

Mark Winburne has joined Southern Investment Professionals, at BankTennessee, as a financial consultant. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Winburne is licensed as a securities principal and is a registered investment adviser.

Ryan Goudy of MacAdvantage Inc. has been certified as an Apple Authorized Macintosh technician. Goudy began his career as a graphic designer at Graphic Systems Inc. He previously worked at the Saddle Creek Apple Store.

Andre Bruce Ward, resident costume designer, and Christopher McCullom, resident set designer, both of Theatre Memphis, have received Outstanding Achievement for Design certificates from the American Association of Community Theatre. The entries submitted on Ward’s behalf were for the productions of “Cyrano” and “Curtains.” McCullom’s design entry was for the production of “Night of the Iguana.”

The board of directors of Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region has elected three new members and a new chair for fiscal year 2010. Nora Boone has been named chair. Other new elected members are Danita A. Macon, Kathryn Leopard and Dr. Lanetta Anderson.

Danny Van Horn has taken office as the Tennessee Bar Association’s vice president. He will take office as president-elect next year and as president in 2011. Van Horn is the youngest member of the TBA ever to become president. He practices law at Butler, Snow O’Mara, Stevens & Cannada PLLC. The TBA also has recognized The Hardison Law Firm PC for its commitment to pro bono work. The FedEx Legal Department has been recognized with the corporate award for its partnership with Memphis Area Legal Services. Linda Warren Seely, managing attorney of MALS, has received the TBA Presidents Award. David M. Cook of The Hardison Law Firm has been recognized for his work on the 4/4 Pro Bono Public Service Day. Chad A. Dickson, Nichole E. Soule and Edward L. Stanton have been inducted as Fellows of the Tennessee Young Lawyers Division. Taylor Cates, Sara Flowers-Dent, Terrence Reed, Kristine Roberts, Lew Wardlaw and Monica Wharton have graduated from the TBA’s Leadership Law program.
