The Memphis Bar Association will host a new member luncheon today at noon at the Memphis Bar Association offices, 80 Monroe Ave. All new members are invited to attend. To R.S.V.P., call 527-3573.

The Caregiver Survival Workshop will be held today from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Longinotti Auditorium of Saint Francis Hospital, 5959 Park Ave. The workshop will be presented by Alzheimer’s Day Services of Memphis and will be facilitated by Tom Bergert-Clark. For more information, call 372-4585.

The University of Memphis will welcome bestselling author James McBride to the River City Writers Series today at 7 p.m. in the Michael D. Rose Theatre on campus. The Parents Association of Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal School will welcome Dr. William Damon as the first presenter in its 2008-2009 Speaker Series on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary of Grace-St. Luke’s, 246 S. Belvedere Blvd. Damon is the author of “The Path to Purpose: Helping Our Children Find Their Calling in Life.” The event is free and open to the public.

Rhodes College will host a panel discussion with environmental authors Mark London, Thomas E. Lovejoy and Charles C.
