UTHSC’s Baselski Receives Professional Recognition Award

Vickie S. Baselski, professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, has been presented the 2008 American Society for Microbiology TREK Diagnostic ABMM/ABMLI Professional Recognition Award.
The award recognizes a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology or the American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology for outstanding contributions to the professional recognition of clinical microbiologists and immunologists.
Robbin W. Hutton has been named a partner with the law firm Weintraub, Stock & Grisham PC. Sally F. Barron and Carrie Kinsella have joined the firm as associates.
Melissa Smithmier has qualified to receive the Golden Eagle Award from the Leading Producers Round Table of the National Association of Health Underwriters. Smithmier is an employee of the Memphis-based employee benefits and financial services company The Barnett Group.
Tom McConnell of Pickering Inc. has become a LEED-accredited professional. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and encourages sustainable green building and development practices. McConnell has been with Pickering for 11 years.
Charles Dykes has been promoted to an associate at engineering and architecture firm Allen & Hoshall. Dykes is a senior designer and project manager.
Kennard Brown and Joyce Addo-Atuah have received doctorates in Health Outcomes and Policy Research Division in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. They are first two African-Americans to do so.
Joanne Stark has joined Weichert, Realtors-Chapman & Associates as an agent. Stark transferred to Weichert after working at another area agency. Her service area focuses on East Memphis and Midtown.
Adams and Reese LLP has been named one of the nation’s top law firms in national market awareness by BTI Consulting Group Inc.’s “Survey of National Market Awareness for Law Firms.” BTI surveyed more than 500 corporate counsel at the world’s largest organizations.
Dr. Harris L. Cohen has been appointed medical director of the Pediatric Radiology Department at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center and executive vice chair in the Department of Radiology in the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Cohen comes from State University of New York Health Science Center, where he was vice chair/associate chair of research, professor of radiology, director of body imaging and chief of pediatric body imaging and chief of ultrasound.
Kelly Davis has been named director of development for University Initiatives in the Advancement Division at the University of Memphis. Davis will be responsible for recruiting donors for initiatives in the Graduate School, University College, Student Affairs and University Libraries. Shawn Carter and Joseph Biggers have joined the Advancement Division as alumni affairs coordinators. Carter previously worked as a technical recruiter for Cook Systems International. Biggers previously worked as a special events intern for the East Carolina University Pirate Club.
Peter Winterburn has joined The Law and Mediation Offices of Rebecca Adelman PLC. Winterburn concentrates his practice in the area of long-term health care and medical malpractice defense litigation.
Sgt. Charles Tartera of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has been named deputy of the year by the Respect for the Law Committee of the Memphis and Shelby County Optimist clubs. Tartera is assigned to the West Tennessee Drug Task Force Crime Interdiction Unit.
Deanie Parker of Memphis has been selected vice chair of the Tennessee Arts Commission. Parker retired at the end of 2007 as president of Soulsville Foundation and currently serves on the foundation’s board of directors. She also has worked as director of publicity, artists and community relations for Stax Records.
Larry Johnson has been promoted to business development manager of Professional Service Industries Inc. in its Memphis operations office. Johnson has been with PSI since August 1999.
