Gerard Appointed to Statewide Post

Dr. Dava F. Gerard, a certified physician executive and administrator at the Methodist Healthcare Cancer Center, has been appointed West Tennessee Chair for the State of Tennessee Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan. Gerard also was appointed to Tennessee's Office of Cancer Surveillance.

Donald Donati of Donati Law Firm LLP recently was chosen by Lawyers USA as one of the top six lawyers in the United States for 2006. Last year, Donati won a unanimous victory in the U.S. Supreme Court for the case Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Co. v. White, a precedent-setting case involving retaliation in the workplace. The victory resulted in a significant expansion of employee rights. Donati also was named one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Tennessee in the 2006 edition of Mid-South Super Lawyers.

Billy Ryan of Donati Law Firm LLP was recognized in the 2006 edition of Mid-South Super Lawyers in the category of Employment Litigation: Plaintiff. Ryan currently serves as president of the Memphis Bar Association's Labor and Employment Section, and also as first vice president for the Federal Bar Association's Memphis Mid-South Chapter.

Jeremy G. Alpert recently has become a member at Glankler Brown PLLC. Alpert has been an associate with the firm since 1998. His practice focuses on civil and commercial litigation. He received his bachelor's degree in 1995 from Dartmouth College and his juris doctorate degree in 1998 from Emory University. Alpert is a member of the American, Tennessee and Memphis Bar Associations.

Carol Casey has been named dean of students at Rhodes College. Casey, a veteran professional in student services, was named interim dean in August. Previously, Casey worked at Tulane University in housing and career services. She has received outstanding administrator awards from both the college administration and Rhodes Student Government.

Michael J. Reilly and Christopher C. Stewart, financial professionals with AXA Advisors LLC and partners in McManus, Reilly, Stewart Financial Inc. of Memphis, have each earned a certificate in retirement planning from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. This certificate is awarded to those who have completed the AXA Equitable at Retirement education program at Wharton.

Charles W. Hill of Glankler Brown PLLC has been named chair of the firm's Litigation Practice Group. Hill represents employers in the defense of claims filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the State Human Rights Commission. He is an arbitrator for the National Association of Securities Dealers.

The Memphis chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators has named its new officers: Frances Lawson, president; Kathy Pleasants, president-elect; Betsy Widdop, past president; Tona King, vice president; LeaRaya Cole, secretary; Shelia Webster, treasurer.

Frank DiBianca has received the Marconi Science Award given by UNICO National, the largest Italian-American service organization in the country. DiBianca is a professor of biomedical engineering and imaging and holds the Children's Foundation of Memphis Chair of Excellence at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Beverly Sanders Gates, an associate with Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC, has been selected to participate in the Women Executive Peer Exchange Network, a peer-to-peer learning forum for the advancement of professional women. Gates is a member of the Association of Women Attorneys and serves on the boards of directors of Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South Inc. and Junior League of Memphis.

Bass, Berry & Sims PLC recently was named a "go-to" law firm by three of its Fortune 500 clients: Dell Inc., HCA Inc. and Performance Food Group Co. Overall, Bass Berry was named by more clients than any other Tennessee firm listed in the survey held by Corporate Counsel magazine.
