Church Group Buys Appling Manor Property

Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Tennessee has purchased Appling Manor at 1755 Appling Road from Appling Manor Associates LLC for $1.2 million. The 1.84-acre property includes a 12,656-square-foot two-story building constructed in 1998 on the west side of Appling Road south of Goodlett Farms Parkway. Christian Church Disciples filed a $1.2 million mortgage due in April 2026 through Board of Church Extension of Disciples of Christ. The Shelby County Assessor's 2006 appraisal of the property was $964,800.

Get a Grip on Downtown Growth at CCC Meeting

The Center City Commission is hosting a "brokers envisioning session" for Memphis-area commercial real estate brokers today at 5 p.m. at the Hunt Phelan Inn, 533 Beale St.
Katrina Shelton, the CCC's business recruitment manager, is heading the presentation, which will explore Downtown's swelling residential population and the need for new business growth to coincide with the boom. Mark Tittle, one of the owners of Downtown business Energy Fitness, will be on hand to discuss how he's benefiting as the first recipient of the CCC's Retail Incentive Program. The discussion also will touch on other new Downtown retailers, including American Apparel on South Main.

Whole Hog Poised to Go Hog Wild in Memphis

The Whole Hog Café, a barbecue restaurant started by Little Rock-based Whole Hog Enterprises Inc., plans to open a new store in Memphis June 1 under a licensing agreement with McMay LLC.
McMay will operate the 6,000-square-foot store at 5727 Quince Road through an agreement with Port Butts Inc., the licensing arm of Whole Hog. As the third Whole Hog Café, the Memphis location will join stores in Little Rock and Bentonville, Ark.
Bran McCarty, co-owner of McMay, said his group plans to open two or three other locations in the Memphis area over the next year.

Popeyes Acquires Eye-Popping Number of Memphis Franchises

AFC Enterprises Inc., the franchiser and operator of Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits, has acquired 13 franchised restaurants from Popeyes franchisee Shelton Development Co. Eleven of the restaurants are in Memphis; the other two are in Nashville. Shelton will continue its relationship with Popeyes as a developer of the company's restaurants.
"As far as operations go, everything will remain the same," said Alicia Thompson, vice president of Popeyes' communication and public relations arm.
