County Commission to Vote May 22 on District 29 Vacancy

In less than two weeks, the Shelby County Commission will hold a much-anticipated vote on who should temporarily fill the office of state senator for Tennessee's 29th District.
On May 22 at 1:30 p.m., commissioners will cast their votes from the commission chambers in the Shelby County Administration Building, 160 N. Main St.
The senate vacancy was created when the state senate voided the Sept. 15 special election in which Democrat Ophelia Ford defeated Republican Terry Roland by a mere 13 votes. The victory margin was marred by voting irregularities and questions about the legitimacy of some votes, leading the senate to void the election.
