Gale Jones Carson has been named director of corporate communications for Memphis Light, Gas & Water Division. In her new executive-level position, she will report directly to MLGW president and CEO Joseph Lee III. She previously was executive assistant to Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton.

Kelley Milligan has joined Counterpart Communication Design as a senior copywriter. She previously worked as a writer for Memphis-based ad agency inferno. She is active in the Memphis Advertising Federation, which named her New Member of the Year in 2003. She also served as a board member from 2004 to 2006 and as editor of the AdFed newsletter from 2002 to 2005.

William B. Sansom has been elected to the board of directors for Memphis-based Mid-America Apartment Communities Inc. He will serve as the director and as a member of the board's nominating, corporate governance and compensation committees. Sansom is the chairman of the board and CEO of the H.T. Hackney Co., which is headquartered in Knoxville.

Dr. Scott E. Sinclair has received a five-year, $328,500 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Sinclair, an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), received the grant to investigate the internal human mechanisms responsible for a specific type of lung injury that usually occurs when patients are on respirators for life support.

Erin Watts has joined Trezevant Manor as marketing coordinator. Angie Hall joined as marketing counselor.

Keith Barger has been promoted to executive vice president of Patriot Bank. Nora O'Hara has been appointed vice president.

Crye-Leike Realtors associate Bill Hammersley has received the certified residential specialist (CRS) designation from the Council of Residential Specialists. He serves on the education committee and the Realtors Political Action Committee (RPAC) of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors. He also has been awarded the designations of accredited buyers representative (ABR), certified relocation assistant (CRA), Graduate Realtors Institute (GRI) and e-PRO membership in the Crye-Leike Multi-Million Dollar Club.

Nancy Guy has been elected president of the Tennessee Real Estate Education Foundation (TREEF). She was appointed president during the 87th Tennessee Association of Realtors (TAR) convention in San Antonio. Guy is an affiliate broker for Crye-Leike Realtors.

Methodist University Hospital's Neuroscience Institute has been nominated for a regional Emmy Award by the National Television Academy. "The Power of Hope, the Miracle of Healing," aired on WMC-TV Channel 5 in April. Narrated by lead surgeon Dr. Allen K. Sills, the hour-long documentary takes viewers behind the scenes with the hospital team that treats patients' life-threatening neurological conditions. The annual awards banquet will be held in Nashville Jan. 27.
