Harbin Finances Tuggle Road Warehouse
Harbin Enterprises GP has financed 18.77 acres at 5025 Tuggle Road near U.S. Highway 78 through Principal Life Insurance Co. for $11.2 million. The property, which includes a warehouse built in 1996, was part of a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes program through the city-county Industrial Development Board. In 2002, the IDB quitclaimed the property to Harbin in a termination of the PILOT lease agreement.
FedEx Anticipates Busiest Day Ever
FedEx Corp. is making plans to handle about 8.5 million packages on Dec. 12 - its busiest day of the holiday season - about 400,000 more than last year's busiest day. The rise, due in part to an increase in online shopping, represents a 40 percent increase from FedEx Ground and FedEx Express' average daily volume of 6 million. More than 250,000 employees and contractors, 674 planes and 70,000 vehicles will handle the added workload.
Boy Scouts to Honor Cotton Industry Leader
Memphis cotton magnate Billy Dunavant is being honored this week by the Chickasaw Council of Boy Scouts of America for a lifetime of community service. The council's Distinguished Citizen Award, to be presented at a banquet at 6:30 p.m. today at The Peabody, is given once a year. Dunavant, a longtime leader in the Boy Scouts organization, is chairman of the board of Dunavant Enterprises.
Spending Rises, Profit Dips for Wright Medical
Arlington-based Wright Medical Inc. reported Tuesday that quarterly earnings decreased as sales growth slowed in some of its orthopedic product lines and the company spent more on product development and marketing. Wright earned $4 million in the third quarter, down from $4.4 million a year ago.
