According to Michael Lightman, Centennial Place Co. managing partner, the company took out a construction mortgage to begin site work on Centennial Place shopping center.
The center will be situated adjacent to Centennial Village, also developed by Lightman. Centennial Village tenants include restaurants Huey's and The Half Shell.
The architecture for the new center will be similar to that of Centennial Village.
Danny Buring, managing partner with The Shopping Center Group Inc. and leasing agent for Centennial Place, said the center will house four stores. In October, a Target store opened on the site. Construction will begin soon on the other businesses.
Once complete, the center will house Gordmans - a discount department store chain new to the Memphis area - and two other tenants.
"Gordmans is opening a three-store share; there's 60,000 square feet each," Buring said.
There also will be a 45,000-square-foot tenant and a 17,000-square-foot tenant, he added.
