ABWA Chapter Names Woman of the Year

Cheryl D. Fleming of Crye-Leike, Realtors, was named 2005 Woman of the Year by the local chapter of the American Business Women's Association. Fleming currently serves as president of the association.

The Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers elected H. Thomas Brown II as director of its national board. Brown works as director of safety and environmental affairs at Quebecor World Inc. and has been a member of ACHMM since 1997. He has been involved in hazardous materials management for 35 years.

Wendy Villafana joined the Hill Boren law firm in Memphis. Villafana earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Memphis. She also serves as an auxiliary officer for Shelby County Juvenile Court.

The Campbell Foundation announced that Bernice "Buzzy" H. Hussey and Joseph Orgill III were elected to its board of trustees, and Carol Kirby was named the new director of leadership gifts.

Glankler Brown PLLC announced that the following attorneys were selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2006: Louis F. Allen, Saul C. Belz, John David Blaylock, R. Grattan Brown Jr., Oscar C. Carr III, Lee James Chase III, Frank J. Glankler Jr., William T. Mays Jr., George J. Nassar Jr., Douglas P. Quay and C. Barry Ward.

Dr. Jeffrey R. Sawyer joined Campbell Clinic Orthopaedics as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Sawyer previously served as head of pediatrics at Rush University Medical Center and Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He is a graduate of the University of Rochester.

The following University of Tennessee Health Science Center researchers were recently awarded grants to further their work: Dr. Abdallah Mtanios Hayar, to study olfactory functioning; Dr. Rennolds Ostrom, to study cardiac regulation; Dr. Ioannis Dragatsis, to study Riley-Day syndrome; Dr. Ivan C. Gerling, to improve islet transplant success rate; and Dr. Newsome Wicks, to study family caregiver health.

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC announced that the following attorneys were selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2006: Ben C. Adams Jr., Leo M. Bearman Jr., Sam B. Wendy Ceide joined DAC, a regional fitness management company, as community wellness director. Ceide earned a bachelor's degree from McNeese State University.
