RACE Awaits City Decision on Permit

Company, citizens at odds over radioactive waste issue

In two weeks, the Memphis City Council will look at plans by a radioactive waste processing plant on Presidents Island to add an incinerator to its facility and to store materials elsewhere on the island. But company officials said the issue goes beyond gaining approval to expand the operation.

Downtown Developers Look Beyond South End

Ten years ago, few people could have imagined the growth taking place in the South Main Arts District in Downtown Memphis. Five years ago, observers probably couldn't see past the distressed neighborhoods and run-down Hurt Village and Lauderdale Courts public housing projects to envision the revitalization that is now under way in Uptown.
