Addresses on Union Avenue
and South Cooper Street
Cost: $1.1 million
Buyer: Circuit Playhouse Inc.
Seller: Union Catfish Co. Ltd.
Property: Property at 66 S. Cooper St. and 2158 Union Avenue. The site includes a five-story office building and a former antiques mall, slated to become Playhouse on the Squares new facility.
According to Jackie Nichols, founder and executive producer of Circuit Playhouse Inc., the office building will contain dressing rooms, a costume shop and a backstage area for the theater.
The bottom two floors of it will be support space for the new theater facility, which is going to be designed by John Morris, who is the architect for The Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, Nichols said, adding that the top three floors will be rented out to nonprofit arts groups for use as offices or rehearsal space.
Once that theater is built, Circuit Playhouse, which is on Poplar, will move to where Playhouse is so both of the theaters will be adjacent to each other, Nichols said. Well rent Circuit out, and it will be used for educational programming over there.
