The Herff College of Engineering at the University of Memphis will hold an open house Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the college, located on Central Avenue near the Zach Curlin intersection. The open house is geared to middle school, high school and community college students and will provide the opportunity to meet faculty, staff, students and alumni and take guided tours. The Mid-South Minority Business Council will hold its annual Robert R. Church Sr. Achievement Awards Luncheon Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn University of Memphis, 3700 Central Ave. Joseph DeVivo, president of Smith & Nephew, will speak. The Memphis Zoo will kick off SunTrust Zoo Lights Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the zoo, 2000 Prentiss Place. Zoo Lights will be held Friday and Saturday evenings from Friday through Dec. 11 and nightly from Dec. 16 through Dec. 23 and Dec. 25 through Dec. 30. Admission is $5 for zoo members and $7 for nonmembers.

The Memphis Potters’ Guild will hold its 30th Annual Holiday Show and Sale Friday through Sunday at the Memphis Botanic Garden, 750 Cherry Road. The holiday show will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.
