The University of Memphis will host a lecture by Columbia University Professor Samuel Moyn titled “Why Anti-Colonialism Wasn’t a Human Rights Movement” today at 3 p.m. in the Rose Theatre entertainment lobby on campus. The event is free and open to the public.

The Tennessee Beta Unit of Parliamentarians will hold its monthly meeting and educational program Monday at 6 p.m. at the Poplar-White Station Branch Library, 5094 Poplar Ave.

The League of Women Voters will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 3030 Poplar Ave., Room C. The topic of the meeting will be “Visions for 2010 and Beyond.” Van Turner, chairman of the local Democratic Executive Committee, and Lang Wiseman, chairman of the Shelby County Republican Party, will speak.

The Downtown Neighborhood Association will meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Earnestine & Hazel’s, 531 S. Main St. Terrance Fluker of the United States Census Bureau will speak. A social will precede the meeting at 6 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Tori Norton.
